VOLUNTEER

Help us to Help Others

We are a community of Friends working together to make a difference to the lives of patients and their families. There are over 350 volunteers who help by doing a variety of roles, throughout the hospital.

Friends of the RUH volunteers are entitled to a free hot drink or bottle of water from our coffee shop or shop.  There is free parking in our Volunteer’s car park on a first come first served basis.  We thank our Volunteers every year by holding a Thank You Party.

The next step would be to have a think about which of our volunteering opportunities interest you, register your details and contact us for an informal chat.  We look forward to meeting you to discover what you would like to do and find out more about how to become a volunteer with us.

You will receive a Health and Safety booklet – please read through this carefully before you begin.

If you are volunteering on the wards, in a clinic or as a guide you will receive three (or more) supported training sessions with an experienced volunteer. This will be practical, on the job training and will last two hours for each session. If three supported sessions are not enough then we are happy to arrange further training. The tutor volunteer will write a short report on your performance.

Once we have received three satisfactory reports and your disclosure form has been returned and cleared you are then fit to volunteer independently.

You will be given on-going information and support throughout your time with the Friends.
